This Isn’t Your Typical Birthday Party

by: Diane

Ava and a real life Barbie.

My little granddaughter just turned 4 and celebrated her DREAM birthday princess party.

Now let me back up a bit and tell you that this was NOT your typical ‘lets make a Duncan Hines cake with Pillsbury pink frosting.’

No…this was a princess extravaganza…there were linen cloths, oodles of flowers, a photographer, pink peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, marshmallow dipped in chocolate, multi-colored candy, and an amazing Princess cake!

The main highlight of the party was a real life Princess Barbie. Oh, yes. This blonde, BUXOM, beautiful girl arrived dressed in her Barbie costume. The high school senior hired for the event brought tears and smiles not only from the birthday girl and her wonderful playmates, but sadly also brought MAJOR smiles from the fathers, and yes grandfathers (one of whom I happened to be married to). Grandpa actually had his picture taken with Princess Barbie , and should be thrilled to know I’ll be sending it out as our holiday card this season. (SURPRISE!)

My grandson Lukas enjoys being a Knight.

And of course, my triplets were there. There was a discussion if boys would even be invited, and looking back it probably should have been an all-girls affair. Alec never got off his chair and kept asking where the race cars were. Dylan, the middle triplet, was very deep in thought trying to figure out how to really harm someone with the plastic knight swords. And Jared, who has always loved dressing up in women’s clothes, really enjoyed fighting over the princess dresses. I’ve got to say, Jared handles high heels very well.

Do you have any birthday party stories? I’d love to hear them! Submit them in the comments section below ☺

I am a fifty-something (I cannot believe it) wife, mother, AND "grandmother" to five amazing children in Miami, Fl. My one daughter has a set of soon to be six –year-old triplet boys, and my son has a girl and a boy (both under 4). A big chunk of life has totally been devoted to being a mother, and I’m old-fashioned in the sense that I think it’s the most important job you can ever have. Having grandchildren is something different altogether, but just as great. We get to play with the toys, give them what they want (lots of sugar), then return them to their parents! It really is a great stage of life ;) I look forward to sharing ALL the stories with you, preferably with a glass of wine in hand! See All Posts by This Author »
