The Most-Hated Baby Names
Baby Name Wizard blogger Lauren Wattenberg recently scoured hundreds of U.S. messageboards for mentions of the most “hated” baby names. She wasn’t looking for the weirdest names, but more specifically for negative reactions from people towards every day, popular names. You can read the full story here. Below is a list of the most disliked baby names she found:
Girls
1. Nevaeh
2. Destiny (people think it sounds “stripperish,” according to Wattenberg)
3. Madison (“it just seemed to grate on people,” said Wattenberg)
4. Mackenzie
5. McKenna
6. Addison (Wattenberg said this is an example of the #1 most-cited loathing category: “boys’ names used for girls.”)
7. Gertrude
8. Kaitlyn
9. Makayla
10. Bertha
11. Hope
Boys
1. Jayden (Many felt there were just too many of these names, and “it’s getting really old,” according to Wattenberg)
2. Brayden
3. Aiden
4. Kaden
5. Hunter
6. Hayden
7. Bentley (people considered the luxury-car association “trashy.”)
8. Tristan
9. Michael (“The whipping boy for people who scorned “common” names,” said Wattenberg)
10. Jackson

# 1 name i cant stand for a girl is Riley it is becoming very popular , i dont no who was polled in this certaintly not me because i can think of many names i dont care for rather than names like hope , maddison , kaitlyn , & makayla , when a name becomes over popular like cayden is rt now for boys especially , which i do like cayden , but wen they do becomes real popular people start to dislike them & wen you use odd names & odd spellings it only makes it hard on your child for life think about that b/4 naming your baby girl or boy if people cant pronounce the name correctly or spell it correctly cause your doing it diffrent it will be that way thru out school & thru out your childs life time , just remember that b/4 naming your precious baby , i used the names Lauren , & Austin for my 1st 2 not popular 23 yrs ago but Austin is very popular for the younger boys & now cayden takes that position over , i used a classic for my 3 rd Ryan my grand daughter is named BROOKLYN BELLA ANNE BROOKLYN & BELLA ARE VERY POPULAR NAMES RT NOW
CHOOSE WISELY & NOT TOO DIFFRENT OR TOO DIFFRENT SPELLING OR TOO DIFFRENT W/ GENDER IN MIND !!! HAPPY NAMING , KEEP YOUR BABYS LIFE IN MIND AS YOU DO SO AS YOU MAY INADVERTENTLY BE SENTENCING THEM TO A LIFE TIME OF HEART ACHE & TEASING & ALWAYS HAVING TO DEFEND THEIR NAME OR HAVING PRONOUNCE IT OR HAVING TO SPELL IT THE CORRECT WAY !!! IT IS BETTER TO HAVE A POPULAR NAME THAN A VERY DIFFRENT ONE !!! MY OPINION OF COURSE

I do not agree with this list. I happen to love the name Addison and several others that are listed for the boys as well. I can think of plenty others that far worse than many that are listed…. try again….

I agree with this list for the most part. Why would you name a girl any name that ended in “son”. And all the boy names ending in “den” are driving me crazy… it seems like every other baby boy born that I know of ends in “den”.

Hmmm…i can see the girl names not being popular, but almost all the boy names are considered some of the most popular names right now…I agree with the last person- try again!

I completely disagree with the name destiny sounding “stripperish”! I named my daughter, now almost 11, destiny because I had a .3% chance of conceiving her and I did! So she is my little fate. I am oppauled that people would think that name is a strippers name.

I guess I committed a double faux-pas by naming my daughter a name that ends in -den and showed up on the boys’ list of most hated names. LOL. I love her name, though, and I think these lists really missed the mark. I contend that Hayden Jolie is a lovely name for a sweet little girl.

Had to post again…i am really disappointed that this is even on here. I literally scoured hundreds of sites..including parenting.coms most popular names this year and this post could not be further than the truth…i would hope that blog posts like these are not published in the future
