When it comes to baby bonding, moms hold the advantage. But dads don't have to
miss out, especially if they try the technique called Kangaroo Care. Recent
studies from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, have shown that the
skin-to-skin practice helps fathers and babies get to know each other. Kangaroo
Care also helps babies gain weight faster; it increases oxygen levels and
improves their ability to keep warm. Clad only in a diaper, the baby should be
held upright against the dad's bare chest. A small blanket should be draped
across the baby's back to create the same effect as a kangaroo pouch. Infants can
be held like this for 20 minutes or up to four hours.
