The highly contagious respiratory syncytial virus most often appears
between November and March as cold-like symptoms. But if your baby begins
wheezing, call your doctor, says William J. Cashore, M.D., associate chief of
pediatrics at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. RSV "can get severe
enough to require hospitalization," he says. Visit the March of Dimes website,
modimes.org, to learn more. Treat cold symptoms with lots of liquids and gentle
bulb suction to baby's nostrils. Ask a doctor before using any medication.
