Poison Control
by Elizabeth Parker

Syrup of ipecac for many years was considered the at-home emergency treatment for poisoning and a staple for all first-aid kits, as it induces vomiting. But the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends not using ipecac because it's not clear that it truly prevents poisoning. Keep all cleaning fluids, medications, and other potentially toxic substances locked and out of your baby's reach. If he swallows a poisonous substance, call 911 or the poison control center at (800) 222-1222.
