Sweet Ideas for Sweet Potatoes




Sweet potatoes are packed full of nutrients, highly palatable, and due to their fiber content, help digestive tract and bowl health. In short, they’re the perfect first baby food! Bake sweet potatoes in a 400° oven for 30-60 minutes, or until soft, then scoop out the flesh and use them in these yummy baby food recipes.

Sweet Potato Apple Mash
Mash or puree equal parts steamed or baked sweet potatoes and apples. For older babies and toddlers, you can chop or dice the sweet potatoes and apples for a finger food salad.

Sweet Potatoes and Squash
Steam or bake sweet potatoes and winter squash (like acorn or butternut) together until tender. Puree as needed, adding water to thin, if necessary. For older babies and toddlers, you can chop or dice for a finger food salad.

Peachy Yam Bake
In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup brown sugar (optional) with 3 tablespoons flour, 2 teaspoons wheat germ, and a pinch of pumpkin pie spice. Add 2 tablespoons softened butter and mash with a fork until the mixture is the consistency of breadcrumbs. Arrange yams and peaches in a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish, sprinkle with topping, and bake at 350° for 35 minutes, or until golden.
